#lock-in

Lock-ins are events that many Kid’s Ministries don’t even attempt because they can seem difficult or daunting, but they don’t have to be scary if they are scheduled and organized. We plan one or two lock-ins each year, and the kids always ask when the next one is coming. We don't really have a set budget for our lock-ins. We always aim for covering the majority of our cost by charging $15 per child. We increase the cost to $20 per child for late registration one week prior to the event. We don’t ask our leaders to pay since they are giving their time and energy [...]

Power Up – Video Game VBS

2021-09-27T20:24:22-07:00

This post is a long time coming! Last summer, we decided to jump into writing our own VBS curriculum for the first time. At the time, I had been writing weekly curriculum for our kid's ministry for about a year, but taking on VBS was a whole new level of writing. At first, I was a bit scared that I was biting off too much too quickly since it was my second time ever putting on a VBS, but as I got into writing the content, I realized it was totally worth the extra work and effort. Christmas Family Night (Elf Edition)

2020-07-06T21:51:28-07:00

Last year, we decided to try something new and created a Christmas Family Night. We wanted to create an event that encouraged families to come together, have fun, and meet other families in our church and community. It was a great success, so we decided to bring it back again this year with a new theme and several additions/improvements. We require families to pay and register for this event online. This helps a ton with planning. If you don’t know who's coming, you'll end up either over-buying or under-buying, and neither of those is a good thing. We charged our families a [...]

Reverse Lock-in

2020-07-06T21:56:23-07:00

We absolutely love doing lock-ins, but I have to say that my least favorite part of a lock-in is the overnight portion. How do you get all the fun of a lock-in without the overnight part? A Reverse Lock-in is your answer. Basically, it's just a fancy way of saying a daytime lock-in, but it sounds a lot cooler, doesn't it? Our kids actually earned this lock-in as a reward for reaching their goal of 101 pounds in change for missions in our Change Challenge. You can read more about that offering contest and other contests we have done with our [...]
